Obama announces new Midwest manufacturing hubs - President Barack Obama on Tuesday announced the creation of two Pentagon-led institutes to boost advanced high-tech manufacturing, with the eventual goal of creating jobs that have been lost to global competition. As part of his year-old promise to expand public-private manufacturing partnerships across the country, Obama announced a new center in his hometown of Chicago, concentrating on high-tech digital manufacturing and design. The other new hub will be located in Canton, Mich., outside Detroit, and specialize in light metal manufacturing.
DoD plots third chapter in Better Buying Power initiative - Nothing is on paper yet, but the Defense Department says it is in the very early stages of creating a "3.0" version of its ongoing Better Buying Power initiative. The newest edition will focus on making sure the military doesn't fall behind in technological superiority.
DoD acquisition reform providing a few glimmers of progress - It's still far too early to pop any champagne corks, but five years after Congress unanimously passed its most recent attempt to fix the Defense Department's acquisition system, there are some signs that the reforms may be paying off.
